North London Experiences Heaviest Snowfall in 18 Years!!

The capital has been brought to a standstill as six inches of snow has taken the city hostage. All of London's buses have stopped running, Heathrow has shutdown, four lines of the Tube have also shutdown completely and National Rail services have been hit by severe delays and disruptions. It's days like these when you appreciate not having any school to attend and instead sit by the window admiring the blankets of white beauty lacing the view outside. More snow is predicted and I'm bloody lovin' it! :)

What a fantastic sight/site indeed! ;) Too bad it didn't snow as much up your end. I was wishing I could make it into Central London today just to capture some of the major touristy sites on camera but with the transport network in the state that it was, I didn't want to find myself stranded halfway there and having to walk the remaining six miles back! Am glad that it looks about par with February 1991. Ever since I moved here I've been waiting for a snowfall like this... my mum told me there was a similar amount of snowfall like this on the day I was born, which incidentally I was wondering if your access to all things weather related could bring up specific reports of weather conditions on specific nights and days in the 80s. And I hope we have more inches of snow tonight. I don't mind if classes are canceled for another day of white beauty. Exciting times indeed!!

From the mid-1980s onwards there's some good stuff on YouTube:

January 1987: Thames News report. The 12th saw the lowest maxima of the 20th century in some places (eg Warlingham -9°C).

February 1991: forecasts from Ian McCaskill and Francis Wilson This was the last very deep snowfall across much of the southern UK.
