I never realised just how big Comic Relief's Red Nose Day is in this country, because the last time it happened I hadn't yet moved here. The only thing I really knew about it was that sketch with Ali G and the Beckhams which became famous worldwide. When I first came across it in university I thought Comic Relief was like a one-off, small-time sketch. Bloody hell, it's anything but. This year's effort has already raised $84 million. That's already $26 million more than last year and still counting. It's like a national holiday. The tele side is just one part of a huge juggernaut. Very impressive. Here's my favourite sketch from this year:
Mock The Week is Back for a Sixth Season
Jul. 13th, 2008 05:00 pmI can't believe I've never seen this show before. Wiki describes it as a cross between Whose Line Is It Anyway and Have I Got News For You. And as Wiki also describes Have I Got Any News For You, "the show has cultivated a reputation for sailing close to the wind in matters of libel with its satirical, light-hearted format." The same can be said of Mock The Week. It's refreshing to watch political correctness and censorship thrown out the window in the same show. This week they made a lotta jokes about Mugabe and his south African fiefdom. Current affairs and facetious British humour in the same show. What more could you ask for?!
