As Bill Lawry Would Say...

It's All Happening Here! Pathan has just walked out at the fall of Dravid's wicket. This is exciting. Flintoff has panicked and thrown more than half the fielders onto the boundary. About 8 runs needed per over.

20 minutes later:
And now Dhoni walks in at the fall of Jaffer's wicket. 170 runs to win in 75 minutes. Game on!

Judging by the Cricinfo scorecard, which shows the 4th wicket as having fallen now, we're trying very hard to lose this match.

Boring Draw. It's funny. A news Channel had Boycott before the match even began, and he was saying that England would aim to draw the match, in the end who struggled to draw and almost didn't?!:D

I wish Boycott was commentating in this series. I like him a whole lot more than Botham, Gower and Nasser Hussain.

It is ironic England turned the tables on India given the kinda injuries that hit 'em days before the match. We need to pull up our socks before Mohali.

Boycott is excellent. I recall him saying once that he commentates as though he's speaking to someone who's played club cricket - he expects that you understand most of the concepts, but there are some technical points that only first class cricket can teach you, and this is what you need to emphasise.

Gower is fantastic though. He is closest to Benaud in style.

Interesting. I certainly learn a lot more when I listen to Boycott.

I guess Gower's alright.

I really miss Tony Grieg though. I can't for the world of me guess what he could've said to not be invited to commentate for South Asian matches. It's like an unwritten ban.

I thought it was Shastri's line!

[identity profile] mcgillianaire.livejournal.com 2006-03-06 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry to disappoint mate... ;) Lawry's been firing that line since Channel 9 commentary began, or perhaps even earlier!

I suppose Shastri is a copycat then. He says that whenever nothing is happening .. case in point, bowler bowls a good length delivery batsman defends it and it rolls towards forward short leg.

Bhogle is India's best commentator. I'm also liking Sivaramakrishnan's style of commentary.
