Tryst With Footballing Destiny

I have just procured tickets to watch Liverpool FC take on Fulham at Anfield on Saturday 22 November. It will be my first trip to Merseyside in 13 years (I think) and my first time to the home of one of the world's greatest football clubs. Unfortunately, I will be sitting with the Away Fans but it was a choice of that or nothing. I won't be able to wear my Red colours but I don't care. I simply can't wait till I hear the Kop faithful belting out You'll Never Walk Alone as the players step onto the pitch. Hopefully Torres and Gerrard will both be fit and playing. There's a total of five of us goin up so it should be an awesome day out. Much drinking and revelry and perhaps even a Liverpool victory.

Meanwhile, I've also bought tickets to watch Liverpool take-on Tottenham Hotspurs at White Hart Lane in the Carling Cup on Wednesday 12 November. The tickets were fairly reasonably priced and it'll be my first visit to the stadium. The top stars will not be playing but it should still be a cracking match. Spurs have a new manager and we're top of the league table. But in bloody typical fashion, you go twenty-four years having watched Liverpool live in action only once, and then in the space of ten days two matches come running along. w00t!

hehe... i don't know bout that. i don't want to give myself any excuse to get evicted. in fact u might be a good person to ask, u know how club websites make it clear the tickets u buy on them are only for home fans and anybody wearing other colours will be evicted. how strict are they about this? what's the situation like at villa?

u c, at fulham i've noticed away fans sitting in home stands, esp at the game against arsenal in august. it made me wonder about the way they make it out to be that u can't enter while wearing other colours. i suppose in this instance, i've specifically bought away tickets using my fulham season ticket membership so it would really be frowned upon if i sat in the designated away section in red... if i'm even allowed into the section with it!

also, if i wasn't studying law, was better built, didn't make taking a punch and could hold my own in a drunken brawl, i might've just done it to take the piss. alas... that is not the case!

being 100% honest with you they are extremly strict about this - even if it was an 80 year old man or a suburban family and the five year old was wearing a shirt they'd kick you out r not let you in. A quiet away fan could sit anywhere and nothing would happen but if you wore a shirt of the opposing team you wouldn't be let in for your own safety as much as anything but they would treat you like you were purposely trying to annoy and I'm sure the police can be asked to have a word with you :S

yeh you best keep your reputation for being a lawyer :)

Tottenham Hotspurs

They have more than one team now? No wonder they've started picking up points!

Ah, typo... :) I know you're not much of a footie fan but did you read/get any of the texts going around that were taking the piss outta Spurs and Juande Ramos?

I couldn't really avoid it; the Guardian had an entire page entitled something like "25 of the best Spurs jokes"...

I'd not read it till you mentioned it so thanks. I'm surprised the Guardian published some of them. A few were really bad... like something even the Daily Mail wouldn't publish... :/

now you see that may be a different thing. At the Ajax match many people wore both an Ajax and villa scarf. I think scarves are a different thing, although being ultra cautious I wouldn't risk it for a premiership match.
