What's Your Favourite Night of Tele?

I've recently come to the conclusion that Thursday is my favourite night in front of the idiot box. It all begins with Jon Snow and the Channel 4 News at 7, random stuff at 8 followed by Hustle (and formerly Mock The Week) at 9, the BBC News at 10, a mix of Newsnight & Question Time till 11:30 and to cap it all off, a discussion of the last seven days in British politics with This Week.

I've also noticed that I watch a lot more stuff from the Beeb than any other channel which makes me think the TV licence that we have to pay for in this country is totally worth it. In fact, my dad was so impressed with the coverage of last year's Olympics that he said the licence fee was worth it for that alone. The licence fee also funds the radio network which I listen to a lot more than I watch tele.

Do you mind paying the licence fee? And should there be public broadcasters both for TV and radio? I think there should.

it would have to be mondays and fridays.
im a soap lover. and if i dont go out, i will watch all the soaps starting with neighbours at 5:30pm and finishing with coronation street at 8:30pm...sad i no...but im hooked lol :)

i stayed in this friday and i have to admit that i hadn't really noticed how good tele was on it... also just goes to show how i'm always out on a friday nite so was weird seeing shows i'd never realised were on tele!

if u go out do u end up watching the omnibuses on the weekends?

I very rarely settle down in front of the box for a whole evening nowadays, but Question Time is one of the few programmes I do make an effort to catch live as often as possible. For the most part I don't watch anything like as much telly as I used to, and the great majority of what I do watch is via the iPlayer. (I'd watch more Channel 4 if they cared about making their iPlayer equivalent work under Linux!)

Despite its various faults over the years, I remain a solid supporter of the BBC - and every time I see some commenter on "Have Your Say" ranting about how it's entirely populated by Marxists or something, that feeling gets stronger still!

As for the licence fee: I wish the Beeb would point out sometimes that most of Europe has some sort of fee. Take Denmark, for example: it's €288, which is considerably more than the UK fee, and applies if you possess anything capable of picking up broadcasts - so a newish mobile phone would count.

I'm surprised C4 don't let you watch their stuff on Linux! And like you I rarely sit in front of the tele for whole evenings, esp with the iPlayer around. But I don't like the C4 equivalent. It takes longer to load programmes and so much less of their content is available for free. Or so it seems to me. I also find it annoying to have to sign-in every time I use it.

And that's really, really fascinating about the Danish licence fee!!! I never realised it could be that much more expensive anywhere else. We really are getting value for money.

it's hard to pick! my 3 fave shows right now are fringe [tuesday], criminal minds [wednesday] and csi [thursday].

at least wednesdays have criminal minds AND csi:ny but i like regular csi and fringe better, so i guess i can't settle on any particular day :(

Hehehe. I never got into House but I know my sis loves it. I think it would take me a couple episodes to get used to Hugh Laurie speaking in an American accent.

I am very much addicted to the BBC. I download insane amounts of UK TV and most of it is from the Beeb. I miss living in London and watching TV. It's way better than the stuff we get here.

With the license, does that mean there are no/limited ads? Because I'd so be ok with no/limited ads. How much is it?

Hehehe. I knew you were addicted to UK TV from the times I uploaded some stuff a while back. It really is amazing!! With the licence there are no ads on BBC1 & 2 and it costs about 140quid now for a year so just over 10quid a month which is not a bad deal. I love the fact it's ad-free and so many programmes both on tele and the radio are right up my alley so I'm lovin it! And do come back to London sometime!! :)
