I'm a great fan of BBC4. It's pretty much what BBC2 was when it was launched in the mid-1960s. As well as the reama and music, it has some excellent science documentaries.

Interesting! When did it change to what it is now?

I love BBC4 as well and would rather see BBC3 die a quick death than have anything happen to it. Incredible output on a shoestring budget!

The going down-market of BBC2 was a gradual thing, as the BBC came to see ratings more and more as being the most important thing. Of course there were still some good programmes, but there was more and more dross that was pretty much indistinguishable from BBC1.
