There's five fewer words than September and that's probably due to being at work for a couple weeks. In this edition there's two borrowed terms from French (9) & (15), a Spanish word (18), an Italian phrase (19) and an old parlour game (31).

28 this time around. The ones I didn't know were 2 (I've clearly led a sheltered life!), 4 and 18. I'm assuming that 17 is the ice cream rather than any slangy usage -- if not, then my score falls to 27.

Mine was a sheltered life as well, till I read it in one of the several articles describing the antics of the England RWC squad in Kiwiland. This particular choice phrase was apparently part of the "banter" with the hotel employee who complained of sexual harassment.

As for 17, I'm afraid it refers to its (Cockney?) rhyming slang usage as spoken by Jo Brand on a recent episode of HIGNFY. Still, 27 is a brilliant return! I was disappointed not to have known Perfidious Albion before hearing Portillo use it in an episode of This Week, last month.

Hmm, on reflection I think I shall dispute no. 17 and go back to claiming 28. Given that you didn't actually say which usage of "Mivvi" you wanted, I think my answer is perfectly valid. It is an ice cream, after all, and I believe the slang usage actually derives from that. So 28. Well, unless this is becoming a telepathy test as well!

Haha. Judge and jury in your own case, if it helps you sleep at night. :)

Also, thanks to a comment you made in the last edition I now bookmark each word with a keyword or few to help jog my memory, in case I forget in which context I heard/read it. :)

I scored 26.

There's five less words than September...

I wouldn't normally complain, but as your post is about words I'm distressed by your use of "less" rather than "fewer". :)

Good score! And you should always complain about bad grammar or spelling on my journal. Thanks for pointing that shocker out. I've fixed it. :)
