Eid Mubarak

Today is also India's first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru's 115th birth anniversary. Some of you know how much I admire this great freedom fighter and later statesman par excellence. I have often remarked that if given the chance to choose a time in history to re-live my life, there is no doubt I would've chosen the period in which heroes like Gandhi, Nehru, Jinnah, Patel, Rajaji, Tagore, Gokhale, Periyar and Radhakrishnan held sway the masses of the motherland...

May his soul rest in peace...

Yes, indeed! Sorry, it must've been late @ night and as you might've noticed, there was a disproportionate number of Tamilians on my list... :)

Thanks though for reminding me of good ole Netaji.

where's bharathiyar and vvs iyer and aurobindo (well he's not tamilian, but his ashram's in pondicherry and that's good enough)?

but yes, good to recognize the south indian freedom fighters. who are sadly often left out of indian textbooks dealing with india's struggle for independence.

Yikes! *runs and hides* Apologies for missing out those three... although VVS Iyer doesn't ring a bell?

And you're absolutely right. It's a bit disappointing when South and North Indians alike are misled by the notion that the Madrasis didn't partake in that wonderful freedom struggle. Just as bad, they don't also know about the social revolution that was taking place @ the same time... :)
