I can't say anything about the models you mentioned, but I have an Acer 5562 and I have no complaints.

I have a Dell XPS, those things rock but they tend to overheat.

I used to own a Toshiba Satellite until I got my Mac. I forget the model but it was from quite some time ago. It never really gave me any problems, but after using an Apple for so long I am never going back.

Hehe... yeh, I have a cousin and an uncle who own satellites and they've never had any problems with it either. unfortunately, the model I'm after got sold out at this tech exhibition that's going on at the moment.

I've used apples from time to time and i wouldn't mind one but the models I looked at in Mtl last summer were beyond my budget. And like i said below, i don't even know if they're available here. they might be available in dubai, and there's a good chance i'll end up getting my laptop from there, so we'll see.

how long have u had the apple now?

acers used to be made with substandard parts

hp tends towards overpriced propritary parts although for a laptop its not as much an issue as a desktop

get a mac

acer is making a significant comeback worldwide but esp in the m.east. everybody is going ga-ga for it right now. it's the 4th largest selling pc at the moment. i'm still caught up in the past and wary bout its problems but i'm keeping the option open by giving enough leeway about its subsequent recovery and latest popularity.

hp seems to have a beauty of a machine at the moment that's got my attention: the 6291 in the above list. good price too if it's still in stock when i head to the tech exhibition later today.

mac- beyond my budget and not available in oman to the best of my knowledge. tho as i learnt last night, there is an actual apple shop here in muscat.

the means its inexpensive, not necessarily high quality :P

if you can't get a mac then I'd recommend dell ... at least you can speak to their outsourced 'customer service' (I use the term loosely as they have never been the least bit helpful in my experience).
