To whom, must I bestow my pride and patriotism?

In April 1990, former Conservative Party chairman, Norman Tebbit, said that "all British Asians should support England when they play cricket no matter the opposition. Failure to do so would make them disloyal to their country."

Are you an immigrant, what do you think? Even if you aren't, do you agree with the Tebbit Test or Joe Hussain, father of former England cricket captain, Nasser and who was born in Madras, when he makes a distinction by saying that "if India or Pakistan take on the West Indies, for example, or India play Pakistan, then the Pakistanis can support Pakistan and the Indians their team. It is only when England are playing them, that they should not support the country of their fathers and grandfathers."

I have supported India in all sporting events since I was a kid despite the fact that I've been a British citizen. But unless Britain/England were playing India, I would support the former in their various sporting endeavours, just not with the same passion and patriotism, that I would for the motherland...

Disloyal subject to Her Majesty?
