Thorny Indo-US relations
Sep. 21st, 2005 06:42 amThe US is trying to force India to make a choice: support the UNSC sponsored report against Iran or lose the nuclear energy deal signed in July.
A lot of different issues make the decision a complicated one for the bigwigs in New Delhi. One that surprised me however was the interesting fact that aside from housing the world's 2nd largest Muslim population (after Indonesia), India is also the home to the world's 2nd largest Shi'a population. Second to Iran, that is. With more than 20+ million Shi'as, growing domestic energy demands and only 3% of current energy requirements fulfilled by nuclear power; it will be quite interesting to see which path India takes.
