Oman and the Free Media
Nov. 14th, 2005 12:05 amThe other day I made a post about an article on Oman that appeared on the Beeb. The next day, which happened to be Eid Al-Fitr, the local newspapers carried as their lead an ironic story about the Omani Sultan granting amnesty to 462 prisoners. Interesting how the global media never bothered to highlight this positive-move but found space to print negative news.
Knowing the Arab media is known for its extremely biased coverage, one wonders just how balanced the Beeb really is. If it thinks that counter-balancing the one-sided Arab media is achieved through printing opposite stories without showing both sides, it raises some interesting questions.

Meanwhile, I completely missed out this headline: Iraqi gunmen attack Omani Embassy in Baghdad! Damn...
