- It pays rich dividends to go to class - today I learnt that a paper formerly due this Tuesday is now due a week later! My fortnight from hell remains my fortnight from hell but I get two more days of normal breathing space before the storm takes over.
- Meanwhile, my maternal grandfather suffered a major nose bleed on Wednesday night. Luckily it wasn't anything too serious and even though he's currently under observation in ICU at a local hospital in Salem, Tamil Nadu he's to be discharged Friday evening. The month of shitty stuff continues to run amok in the family...
- Today I learnt a lot of interesting things in class. For example, the word amok comes from Malay and entered the lexicon only in the 60s after the mayhem that took place on the streets of Java island between the Javanese and non-Javanese Indonesians.
I also learnt that corruption is not only transparent but generally regarded to be normal practice by most Indonesians while finally, poverty statistics are extremely unreliable in Indonesia not because of faulty data collection (which might be possible) but because of the volatile nature of the Rupiah's exchange rate.
The currency changes so much that there's as large as a 20% difference to the total number of people below the poverty line from week to week - primarily due to the $1/day standard used by the UN! - And last but not least, my sis got some decisions back from most of her universities. Meh, the wait continues...
