Happy Birthday India!
Aug. 15th, 2006 04:45 pmToday is India's 60th Independence Day, an occasion to celebrate the creation of our "nation-state" and freedom from British-rule.
It is also a wonderful opportunity to remember the immortal "Tryst with Destiny" speech of our first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, and evaluate the progress that has been achieved since 1947.
As Prime Minister Manmohan Singh rightly points out in his address to the nation, "we have miles to go before we can truly say that we have made our tryst with destiny." That being said, I also think we can take great pride in what has been accomplished. The journey continues...
