My Roman Connection
Sep. 28th, 2007 02:05 pmI've just learnt that in Roman times the place where I was born was known as Caesaromagus (ie, Caesar's Field/Marketplace). That's so cool. The next time someone asks me where I was born that's exactly what I'm going to say! To hell with Chelmsford...
Ali al Habsi creates Arabian Gulf history
Fulham 1 - 2 BOLTON aet [Healy 78'; Guthrie 57', Giannakopoulos 112']

"I dedicate my performance to His Majesty and the thousands of fans in the Sultanate, without whose support I could not have reached this far. I did well as I had the prayers of all Omani fans along with me. [My parents] were awake till late in the night and following the match through my brother Ahmed. I am happy to have made every Omani proud by becoming the first footballer from the Gulf region to feature in the League Cup." -Ali al Habsi, Bolton Wanderers and Oman goalkeeper
Congratulations Ali! We are all proud of your achievement. I just wish you hadn't joined the EPL so early, and that too for a team like Bolton which already had one of the world's best goalkeepers. You were playing so many more games and doing really well in Norway. You're still so young and could've been playing first-team football for a different club in Europe. In any case, I'll let my dad take some credit for your success after he treated you sometime ago. :) Keep it going! Can't wait till you make your Premier League debut.
