Apparently the new technology allows to you to pay for items worth £10 or less without inputing your PIN code. You simply swipe, like an Oyster. 1.5 million other Barclays customers have the same card as me and that number is expected to double by the end of the year, with all their customers getting the card by 2011. Other banks are following suit. There is one serious security implication. Customers will be liable for up to £50 of incurred losses. Last year the British Retail Consortium said the system is simply a ploy to make money but I can see some use for it. I just wish the bank had told me they would be sending the technology-embedded card because they 'conveniently' didn't mention the £50 liability bit. Probably scribbled somewhere in the microscopic fine print. I've also never seen a terminal in a shop yet. Then again, the eyes do not see what the mind does not know. [READ MORE]
