London: "The Dirty Man of Europe"
Oct. 6th, 2009 07:15 pmAccording to the Brussels-based Association of Cities and Regions for Recycling (ACR+), I live in the continent's dirtiest city. It's no surprise really. Compared to our weekly bin collections, Bucharest are twice as good, while Paris cleans up everyday. Presumably when they're not on strike. Moreover, we are not recycling enough of our waste and dumping it into landfills instead. Compared to Copenhagen's 1% of landfill waste, our contribution is 52%. But it's not all doom and gloom. Paris (19%) and Lisbon (10%) recycle less than us (22%) with the government aiming for 45% by 2015. But ACR+ are not optimistic. We need to clean up our act. [READ MORE]
