As in England and Wales, to terminate a contract in France, you need to provide a reasonable period of notice. But what is reasonable? There is no hard-and-fast rule. It's determined on a case-by-case basis and the judgements in two separate cases serve as a useful indicator. In one, the court held that a nine-month termination notice period was insufficient for a business relationship of thirty-five years. In the other, the court held a nine-month termination notice period was sufficient for a business relationship of twenty-five years.
