Sevilla 4 - 0 Middlesbrough
May. 10th, 2006 04:45 pmI just finished watching the UEFA Cup Final on SopCast's Chinese sports channels.
The scoreline doesn't do any justice to the way Boro played for most of the game. They kept trying for an equalizer (when the score was 1-0) but when the Andalucian team scored their second goal against the run of play, Boro unravelled and it turned into carnage.
By the end, the English club were lucky to have let in only 4. Nevertheless, a wonderful performance by a team that almost consistently found itself near the relegation zone in the Premiership and overcame triple goal deficits in the previous two rounds of the UEFA Cup to make the final.
An unfortunate end to Steve McLaren's managerial career at the Riverside. Is this an omen of things to come as he moves onto bigger and better things with the national team?
