An Indian engineer from Hyderabad was abducted on Friday by the Taliban in the Hassan Karez area of southern Zabul province, Afghanistan. The terrorists demanded all Indians in the country to leave by Sunday night otherwise they would kill the father of three young children.

The barbaric bastards beheaded him on Friday night itself.

====

Meanwhile, 35 Hindus were slaughtered to death in two separate incidents in Kashmir. 22 were shot dead.

In some ways I wish we had never exploded those nuclear bombs. At least by now we could've finished off that godforsaken entity they like to call Pakistan. Hopefully the Baluchis will raise the ante for the potential destruction of the world's most dangerous state-sponsorer of terrorism.

Oh and just for the record, Kashmir is neither Indian nor Pakistani. All of it, Pakistan included, belongs to India. Just tying up loose ends.

That is all.

I'm pretty sure there are Kashmiris who disagree. And for something that "belongs" to India, India isn't doing such a great job of taking care of it.

There was no such thing as India until the goddamn British got there.

Right. The several larger empires established by about 1000 kings before the British (these were LARGER than the "British Empire") obviously didn't exist.

And that makes us a happyjoyfulHindu single unified whole HOW exactly?

History tends to get watered down over that many generations.

I NEVER mentioned the word "Hindu" - there were ALL sorts of kings - Hindus, Muslims, Huns, Shakas.....

Eh?

The winner always writes history. Just because English is the 4th most spoken language in the world does not mean that the British Empire was desirable or GOOD. OR that they ever tried to unite us. QUITE the contrary. Read "The Glass Palace" by Amitav Ghosh. You will know that Burma was AS MUCH a part if India as any other state now, IRRESPECTIVE of the English. So was Pakistan. So was Bangladesh. And we let them divide us.

And now, 6 decades after our "freedom", a BEACON OF WISDOM, i.e. YOU comes along to tell us that they were trying to UNITE us. Why, of course! They were uniting us by breaking us up into parts, because after all, it was for our own good, no?!

Never mind the OTHER empires BEFORE the English that brought all of them together MILLENIA before the English. You HAVE to see only the British, and ONLY in positive light. Congratulations. You have been successfully bleached.

Wow, I can't believe you even have the guts to talk about history, what with your astounding ability to read whatever the hell you want into other peoples' words.

MAYBE IF I TYPE IT IN ALLCAPS YOU'LL UNDERSTAND BETTER?????

India has never been unified and happy and whole. There was plenty of infighting during the British Raj, and plenty before it as well. IMPERIALISM BY ANYONE DOESN'T MAKE FOR A UNIFIED SUBCONTINENT AND HARDLY LEGITIMISES THE ARTIFICIAL BOUNDARIES OF NATION-STATES, NOR THE EXPANSIONIST AMBITIONS THEREOF. SINCE THE BRITISH WAS THE MOST RECENT EMPIRE TO HAVE CONTROL OVER THE INDIAN SUBCONTINENT, AND IT'S STILL FEELING THE EFFECTS OF BRITISH IMPERIALISM, IT'S HARDLY FAR-FETCHED TO SAY THAT THE NATIONAL BOUNDARIES DRAWN IN THE 1940s STILL AFFECT INDIAN POLITICS TODAY.

Maybe you could tell the Kashmiri people, who don't much like the Indian governmnent and never have, that they ought to be "part of India" because some dead emperor said so. That's sure to go down well.

While you're at it, why don't you go throw some more ALLCAPS at those straw men you so love, dipshit?

Nation-state blah blah blah....

You probably studied at some linear combination of JNU and St Stephen's College, "inetellectual".....

I was NOT talking about Indian politics, you thick-headed snob. I was talking about people.

Go preach your political theories to INTELLECTUALS. Call people names from your idiotic INTELLECTUAL pulpit, you idiot, without understanding what I was talking about. You aren't capable.

ACTUALLY, YES, I DO NEED CAPS TO PUSH CERTAIN THINGS INTO YOUR HEAD, WHICH SEEMS TO HAVE ESCAPED ANY ATTEMPT MADE AT EDUCATING IT, LIKE MOST INDIAN INTELLECTUALS.

1. KASHMIRIS ON THE PAKISTANI SIDE HAVE STARTED FIGHTING THE PAKISTANI ARMY - ACTUALLY, LONG AGO. READ NEWS BEFORE YOU COMMENT ON IT.

2. NATIONS ARE DEFINED BY PEOPLE AND CULTURE, NOT INTELLECTUAL POLITICAL THEORIES, OR IMPERIALISM. IMPERIALISM AFFECTS YOU AFTER FREEDOM ONLY IF YOU ALLOW IT TO. PEOPLE LIKE YOU OBVIOUSLY NEVER WANT TO GET OUT OF THAT IMPERIALIST MODE AT ALL.

1. I grew up in Australia, dipshit.

2. That doesn't mean they're at all happy with the treatment they've had from the Indian government. They're not, by the way.

3. The whole concept of a nation is an artifice created to pacify populations and make war easier. If you knew a goddamn thing about history or politics, you might realise that. Unless you want to be a moronic nationalist, clogging the issue up with a smokescreen of "people and culture" just legitimises more stupid violence. But you don't care about that, do you? All you care about is some dead empire from long ago.

4. IMPERIALISM AFFECTS YOU AFTER FREEDOM ONLY IF YOU ALLOW IT TO.

Tell that to the Kashmiris.

Or, perhaps, the indigenous people of any other colonised country, who still live under collossally worse conditions than the rest of the population.

While you're at it, have fun getting spat on.

5. AHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAAHAHHAAAAAA

You're so full of shit it's coming out your ears.

6. You've just proven yourself intellectually bankrupt. Congratulations.

Hmm ....

I know what your problem is.

You do not use water after you eat. That's why you are likely to have oral cancer.

Also you must be careful about getting colon cancer, since you do not use water even after you shit.

that really sucks about the masacre. the real reason everyone wants kashmir is the water. thats why a solution agreeable to everyone is highly unlikely.

I honestly can't see the point in fighting over a strip of mountain that not many people can live on. The lives lost aren't worth it. From what I understand it's just turned into a matter of pride who ends up with Kashmir. One of those sad situations that requires compromise (that will never come).

Since I don't live in Kashmir nor have I ever, I feel that I have a legitimate right to it. It's true that my millitary arsenal doesn't nearly stack up against that of India or Pakistan (mostly because I don't have one). However I feel that I have a moral right to at least state my claim.

I was browsing profiles of people interested in Indian politics and came across yours.

The death of the engineer was shocking yet expected-we are dealing with the desperate Taliban here. I do wish the Governement would do more than make speeches. Perhaps if they stationed military there for protection of India civilians because we have vested interests in Afghanistan, for example the new oil pipeline deal.

Its depressing how Kashmir has been turned into a political battleground where innocents are losing their lives. Of course its nothing more than a prestige issue between the two countries. Though what would be the best solution I cannot say because I really do not know what the people in Kashmir want and what will actually benefit them the most...

Date: 2006-05-06 06:44 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mcgillianaire.livejournal.com
I don't think any kind of military protection would be adequate for dealing with the chaps. Working there is just dangerous. I think it's important we aid Afghanistan as much as possible because otherwise Taliban East & Taliban West will create unecessary trouble again.

As for Kashmir, I think all the involved parties should work towards turning the LOC into an international border. That's the only practical solution. It's already a de-facto border.

Date: 2006-05-07 02:14 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] elodie21.livejournal.com
Yes we really need to continue to give aid to them, for sure.

An international border can definitely be the solution but it will be a miracle if all the parties can actually ever agree on something. Even if its the best solution they will disagree because they are expected never to agree!

Date: 2006-05-11 06:09 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mcgillianaire.livejournal.com
I'm pretty sure they'll agree on the international border within the next 15 years, hopefully less. It might seem like a lot but I think that's a decent timeframe.
