I never realised just how big Comic Relief's Red Nose Day is in this country, because the last time it happened I hadn't yet moved here. The only thing I really knew about it was that sketch with Ali G and the Beckhams which became famous worldwide. When I first came across it in university I thought Comic Relief was like a one-off, small-time sketch. Bloody hell, it's anything but. This year's effort has already raised $84 million. That's already $26 million more than last year and still counting. It's like a national holiday. The tele side is just one part of a huge juggernaut. Very impressive.
