In a world where loyalty has no meaning, Nicolas Anelka is a super trooper. In the last 11 years no less than £84.8 million has been spent to acquire his genial footballing services. In such a short period he has played for no less than 8 top division teams in England, France, Spain and Turkey. He's even found time for two stints at PSG. And to think he's only 28! A tale of unfulfilled talent and topsy-turvy transfer-fees:

1) PSG to Arsenal in 1997 for £500,000.
2) Arsenal to Real Madrid in 1999 for £22.3 million.
3) Real Madrid to PSG in 2000 for £20 million.
4) PSG to Liverpool in 2001 on loan.
5) PSG to Man City in 2002 for £12 million.
6) Man City to Fenerbahçe in 2005 for £7 million.
7) Fenerbahçe to Bolton Wanderers in 2006 for £8 million.
8) Bolton to Chelsea in 2008 for £15 million.

Very rarely does the transfer-fee for a player double after it has already hit the heady heights of £22 million and then entered a period of steady decline. Props to the French-striker for rehabilitating his hotch-potch career and offered himself a chance to prove why he is still so feared across the continent. But why Chelski, why? Forget it, I know the answer to that. Meh. Poor Bolton. They could so easily get relegated this season. Any thoughts, [livejournal.com profile] pnostlove?
