SCORECARD
YEEAAAAAAH!!! Well, well, well. What have we here chaps?! 15 wickets, 297 runs, Kumble's 600th Test wicket, a counter-attacking century partnership and a world record hanging in the balance! THIS is what TEST MATCH CRICKET IS ALL ABOUT! THIS is why we don't get bored of the longer game. Just because India dominated virtually an entire day's play doesn't mean they will run away with the game tomorrow. There is a good chance they will, with the pitch remaining true for batting and all four Galacticos awaiting their turn. But it wouldn't be out of place for the record-equalling Aussies to cut us down to size and potentially even win the game before sunset. The latter scenario is unlikely, but so was India's victory in 2001 at Kolkata. Incidentally, on that occasion, India not only defeated the Aussies, but ended the latter's march to a record-making 17th consecutive Test victory. Once again, the Aussies find themselves in a precarious situation in their 17th Test since their 16 consecutive victory march began. Boy is it great that India might be the team to prevent Australia from achieving what they truly deserve... AGAIN!
Unfortunately, India's overrate today was no better than Australia's yesterday and only 75 overs were bowled all day! Together the two teams have bowled 11 overs less than the minimum stipulation after 2 days. That is really NOT acceptable. As
pappubahry has illustrated here, bowling 15 overs an hour is not really that difficult; until 1954 no team bowled less than 15 and in fact 20 overs was common-place. But as he has also pointed out, it is unlikely that captains will receive suspensions after Ganguly overturned his in a public court of law in India. Personally, I don't mind if the penalty comprised a mix of captain suspensions and docked runs, but something needs to be done urgently about it!
Otherwise it was a really exciting day of cricket, with scorching hot temperatures and high-quality swing bowling. And to think that India's pace trio are less experienced than their Australian counterparts. COME ON INDIA!!!
PS Hussey got out for his first duck today!!! Ironic, especially after Dan Martin from Adelaide Asked Steven if his 2120 Test runs without one until now was unique. :D
PPS Dravid is now the 3rd highest non-wicket-keeping catcher in Test cricket.
PPPS The last time Australia lost at home was to India in 2003 and the last time they lost in Pert was to the Windies in 1997!
