I'm waiting for Islamabad. I half expect it wouldd be a lot like London or Paris, except it won't have anything to do with protests or demonstrations of any kind. Heck a bomb might even go off by accident!
I remember talking to the president of the University of Nizwa (where I used to work.) He done his bachelors through doctoral degrees in the US, so was very familiar with the college scene there.
We were killing time waiting on something, so I'd asked him about the student association and how it worked. He gave a quick overview and waved the rest off with, "it's the same as student unions in the US... [then he smirked a bit and added] but we don't call it a student union, of course. This is Oman after all."
---- I came ever so close to busting out laughing... but figured that even though it was obviously a joke (said in a very deadpan way) I wasn't quite sure if it was wise for me to laugh too hard at it. So I chuckled and we moved on.
