You'd be forgiven for not noticing, but today is England's National Day. I noticed a few more flags than usual and I even saw a couple souveniour flags inside a car, but there was no Trafalgar Square tamasha. London celebrates Eid, St Patrick's Day and even invites Masai Warriors, but we don't recognize this constituent country's patron saint. I know the BNP and its ilk use a similar argument to market their propaganda, but even as someone who disassociates himself from all such scum, I think it's disgraceful that the authorities basically ignore their own National Day. There doesn't have to be any chest beating, an acknowledgment would be a start. Happy National Day!

My grandfather's middle name was St George, but I did not know that St George Day was England's national day! Makes sense of course, seeing as St George is the patron saint of England!
