For the first time since moving here sixteen months ago, I experienced a power cut. Luckily it only lasted a few minutes but I wonder what set it off. A timely reminder to invest in an extra battery for the laptop and healthy food that can be eaten without heating up.

We lose electricity in Brisbane regularly during the storm season (ie, summer), and occasionally during the winter. I'm lucky enough to be in a suburb where it's never off for more than a couple of hours at a time - there are parts of Brisbane (and the surrounding areas) that go off for over 24 hours.

Wow. I'm really surprised to read that. But judging by what you wrote, it is weather-induced rather than due to a lack of supply, right?
