That would've been scary! It's been a while since I've seen hailstones. I remember the first time I saw them was in England in April 1994. Pretty scary stuff.
Impressive! And a major historical event, too: I can't be absolutely certain, but I believe this was the first time snow had lain in London in October since 1934! (There have been a couple of more recent flurries, but they didn't settle.)
Edit: further research suggests that it's the first lying snow in lowland England since 1934. For London specifically, the most recent October lying snow I can find was 25 October 1926!
Wow!!! That is effin impressive!!! I'm so glad to have been there and seen it. Years from now I'll be tellin my grandchildren about the last time it ever snowed in October in The Big Smoke... Thanks for lookin it up and sharing that.
I can imagine! There was not that much snow... but some of it stayed till the next morning. Was so beautiful to wake up to white covered buildings in the morning.
we've been having flurries in toronto but it's been wet snow and hasn't really accumulated on the ground in most places. while your photo definitely looks pretty, i don't WANT snow ;(
