The cold snap has generously donated a wonderful thin white blanket over North London. Absolutely gorgeous. Reminds me of Montreal...

We had large hailstones (bit less than golf-ball-size) the other day. It sounded like the roof was cracking.

That would've been scary! It's been a while since I've seen hailstones. I remember the first time I saw them was in England in April 1994. Pretty scary stuff.

Impressive! And a major historical event, too: I can't be absolutely certain, but I believe this was the first time snow had lain in London in October since 1934! (There have been a couple of more recent flurries, but they didn't settle.)

Edit: further research suggests that it's the first lying snow in lowland England since 1934. For London specifically, the most recent October lying snow I can find was 25 October 1926!

I can imagine! There was not that much snow... but some of it stayed till the next morning. Was so beautiful to wake up to white covered buildings in the morning.
