We've got a new Prime Minister and first coalition government in seventy years. It's also the first-ever coalition between these two parties but only time will tell whether we are ConDem-nd or not. Five cabinet posts and a dozen or more junior ministerial roles. Exciting times plebs!
I was thinking today that it must've been forever since a coalition government over your way (my instinct says it's less likely to happen in FPTP electoral systems, since you end up with two opposing big parties dividing the electorate roughly in half), so I'm glad to be right.
Sorry to ping you hear, but I wasn't sure whether to trust your email off the list.
Anyhow, I have a favor to ask you to ask your dad, if you don't mind. Nutshell version, about 10 weeks ago, my knee went bad. I ignored it (as is my habit. A bad habit, btw) and just went in to the doctor (Dr Rajiv, Badr al Sama) recently. They did an MRI and apparently it's torn cartilage, probably torn ligament, but are recommending surgery.
So I'm wanting to get a second opinion. Unfortunately, the problem of not being a doctor is you have no clue who the good doctors are. You can tell who the doctors with a good bedside manner are, but that's rather meaningless in terms of being a good doctor. So I was wondering if you'd mind asking your dad (or maybe you just know from hearing him talk and so you don't need to ask him at all) of any orthopedic specialists who are particularly good?
As a side note, in talking to Dr Rajiv about orthopedic surgeons in Oman, he mentioned "the best one is at Muscat Private." MCT Private isn't covered by my insurance, so it was kind of irrelevant. But I was curious if he was referring to your dad, so I asked who he was talking about.... And sure enough, he was. So I figured I'd share that story with you. :)
Anyhow, I just figured I'd take advantage of connections to knowledgeable people to ask for recommendations. But if if you're busy or whatever, don't worry about it. I'm sure visiting with him (he's still in the UK, right?) takes much higher priority than email. But if you do feel like asking, and want to save your LJ from random comments, my email is at dawnmlloyd at gmail dot com.
