BT Infinity - Super Fast Fibre-Optic Broadband

I've just upgraded to BT's Infinity high-speed Internet service. Download speeds have jumped from 7 Mbps to 37 Mbps while upload speeds have gone from 0.3 Mbps to 8 Mbps. There doesn't seem to be a noticeable difference in browsing speeds but needless to say, I'll be putting the download and upload speeds to the test later today. Yay, this is exciting! I love being at the forefront* of available technologies...

(* Though truth be told, I have already spent a year living with these speeds during my first year at uni eight years ago)

Heh - I can remember the excitement at how fast a 56 kbps dialup connection was... tbh I don't think it makes that much difference to most ordinary browsing once you're past a couple of Mbps; it's that upload speed I suspect you'll really notice.

Exactly! I installed the speedtest.com app on my iPhone today and it produced this result:



That's using the wireless connection from my new broadband set-up. I wish I'd tested it before I upgraded. The engineers said I probably wouldn't get speeds above 19Mbps on a wireless connection with the same broadband.

You may be able to tweak your browser settings to take better advantage of your available speed. In firefox you could try fiddling around in about:config (google for instructions on backing up current settings).

Oh really? That would be great if I could. I use Chrome, d'yu think it would still be possible? In any case I'll look it up tomorrow.
