Thanks to the non-stop Oman Air flight, it took me less than 12 hours door-to-door. Just in time to watch Match of the Day! YNWA

Welcome back! Good timing with match of the day. Football arrgh lol ;) Anyway I hope Liverpool do well. The weather is actually warmer than it has been lately too, but I expect after Oman, a bit of relative cool will be a relief.

Thanks! It feels great to be back but a bit weird because this is the longest I've been away since moving here. I must admit I was hoping for a bit of a crispy evening chill when I got out of the Tube station but like you pointed out, it was rather warm. For these parts, at any rate. Apparently it's been a very wet August and September isn't looking any better! And thanks about Liverpool. You have done well to get in a pleasantry early as anyone who has followed this journal for a while can attest to my occasional bouts of football-driven irrational exuberance. And judging by your preceding comment, I take it that you're not a fan of the national game? :)

I don't dislike football per se .. I just don't follow it much, unless England are playing. But I admit to watching the World Cup final and semis. I am used to football exuberance! And it's not irrational. Most guys in this country seem to love it. Any exuberance is good :) My son's last facebook status was: "Match of the Day tonight. F**k yeah!" The crispy evening chill we have been having lately will return very soon I'm sure, but I'd rather it didn't quite yet. I've even had the heating on a little a couple of nights recently.

Ah, you follow it a lot more than I originally expected! Too bad this year's WC semis and final were largely a disappointment. And I'm glad you think the exuberance is not irrational! To be fair, I don't post about football as much as I used to, but that could change with my schedule this year and a markedly better string of results by the Reds. Who does your son support? I'm glad he's got his priorities straight. MotD is compulsory viewing for me, unless I'm at a game itself and can't make it back in time... or out on the lash! ;) The best way to watch it is to somehow get through the day without knowing the results and then surprising yourself. I've done it a couple times and it was a great feeling. The sense of anticipation... and getting through a whole day in this country without having the surprise spoilt by a well-intentioned friend! And what's this about heating! Already? It's still August!

Hmm .. not sure watching a couple of matches every few years really qualifies much! My son supports Liverpool! When he was younger he used to support Man U but got bored with them for some reason. He and his mates all do this fantasy league thing too.
You managed to avoid the wet and chilly part of August! Maybe I feel the cold more as I'm more accustomed to living in hot places.

Oh right, just World Cup matches. Thought you watched other England games as well. Though it's all a moot point. As long as you understand the offside rule and can argue both ways on any penalty decision (ie by saying "I've seen those not/given") then you qualify! Very low standards...

And great to hear he supports Liverpool... though he must be in a minority who have got there via Old Trafford!! Oh and I do the fantasy thing as well with a bunch of friends. Into my fifth season now so hoping to get away from last year's disappointing mid-table mediocrity. Decent start so far, better than last season's at any rate so there's hope yet!

That's interesting you feel the cold for that reason because it doesn't bother me, even though I've spent most of my life in hot places. I prefer the cooler weather and I love the fact it never gets too cold or too hot in London. I spent four winters in Montreal and that was one extreme, Muscat and south India are another. London is inbetween. And I don't even mind the overcast skies. If it could just rain a little less often, it'd almost be perfect!

Besides London and Sharjah (was it?), where else have you lived?
