I've recently acquired a taste for Bloody Marys to recover from a night of heaving drinking but I was sober when I had this one. It was on an US Airways flight from Detroit to Washington DC. [26 May 2011]



Dad and I travelled on four different domestic airlines. My favourite was JetBlue Airways. They served Dunkin Donuts and had live TV/radio that included the BBC World Service. [27 May 2011]


Andreas Restaurant on Thayer Street, the Oxford Street of Providence, serves really good Greek-American food. It was my second time there having graced it on my previous trip to America last September.


I only managed to spend a little time here but it was enough to catch the end of the European Cup Final and enjoy a pint of Smithwick's. [28 May 2011]


Too busy to drop into the delightful Boston-based "fast-casual bakery and cafe chain" Au Bon Pain? Then just pick-up, pay and keep walking! [29 May 2011]


We weren't too busy to pick-up breakfast. Au Bon Pain serves hot and cold stuff. I decided to have a simple salad of mozzarella with tomato. [29 May 2011]

Fairfield, Iowa has a population of 9,500 and therefore it shouldn't have surprised us that restaurants close at 9pm. We walked into this Chinese joint almost on the hour but luckily the lady proprietor agreed to stay open a little longer and prepare us a meal. She cooked it herself because she had already sent home the chef. We were very thankful and thoroughly enjoyed the vegetable Thai green curry. [24 May 2011]


Ironically, this meat thali was called Nirvana. It wasn't the best but it was good for Pawtucket's standards. Pawtucket was home to the first fully mechanized cotton-spinning mill in America in 1793. [29 May 2011]


Mediterranean Kabob: Tender pieces of filet mignon tips on a skewer with onions and peppers, topped off with fresh lemon and extra virgin olive oil, served with rice pilaf and a side of cucumber yogurt sauce. ($17.50)


Nothing like cooling down after a day in the hot sun. Apparently this place is well known in the area. I was intrigued by the fact it was in a place called Palmyra in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania. [21 May 2011]


I have a policy of eating what I like at home and trying new things outside. At the ice-cream joint I ordered a cup of Tiger's Blood. It was good but not great. [21 May 2011]


Each country has its own chain of service stations just off the highway. In America each state has its unique collection. This one can be found somewhere in eastern Iowa. [23 May 2011]


Another great place to eat in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. In fact it's situated right next to the Indian place where I ate the Nirvana meat thali pictured above. [30 May 2011]


I saw this in Buffalo Airport and their hot chicken sandwich lived up to its name! The London-based franchise is owned by the family that invented the sandwich. [27 May 2011]


No trip to America would be complete without a detour to a shopping mall and a meal in its food court. Unfortunately this chain did not entirely live up to its name. Quick service but no pandas! [27 May 2011]


An aptly named restaurant. We were supposed to eat dinner here but forgot to make a reservation so we ended up in the food court pictured above instead! [27 May 2011]


Hershey's Chocolate World in... Hershey, Pennsylvania is the chocolate company's visitor centre. It's very popular with kids and includes a free Chocolate Tour ride which we did. I'll upload a video of it soon.


Free delivery, open seven days, fine wines and imported beers. I need one of those places where I live. [28 May 2011]


I saw this sign in almost every restaurant/fast food toilet across the country. This one was in a Burger King or McDonald's in Illinois. [23 May 2011]

If you like bloody Marys, you should try a bloody Maria. Same thing, but with tequila instead of vodka :D

There seems something kinda wrong about Bloody Marys from a can. But I guess it's more convenient!

Those kebabs look amazing. I love Middle Eastern & Mediterranean food, my favourite cuisine for sure.

We have those hand washing signs all over the place. It's become more commonplace to have instructions on how to wash your hands outside of hospitals. I think we're a bit germ obsessed here.

I wouldn't expect flight attendants to mix a Bloody Mary from scratch given their obvious time and space constraints but I hear ya on drinking it as a mix from a can. If it's any consolation, it was quite tasty. Especially after I added a couple sachets of pepper into it.

The kebabs were delicious!! The salad and rice were not that great but you can just tell from the picture the kebabs were good. I still think Indian food is my favourite, just because of the variety between North and South, and between meat dishes and vegetarian ones. But Middle Eastern food is up there. I find it especially annoying that I can order takeaways from just about every cuisine except Middle Eastern where I live! There's a Greek/Turkish place just over 10 minute walk away but no home delivery. Not yet any ways. I just live in the wrong part of my Borough. There are lots of Greeks, Cypriots and Turks in other parts... so many that one area is known as Palmer's Greek instead of Palmer's Green!

I don't know if you ever ventured up to Turnpike Lane and Wood Green when you were in London because that's where you find the biggest concentration of Turks and Greeks, and naturally all their food joints. There's one particular point in the street where on the one side there's only Turkish cafes and on the other only Greek places. Not surprisingly, it's a focal point for late night gang fights, especially on weekends. But the food is just so good!

Of course if you like Greek stuff I'm sure there's a heavy dose of that stuff in your neck of the woods, particularly in Melbourne...

As for the signs, to be honest I hardly eat out in London so for all I know they're posted all over the place over here as well! But I do know we've got those hospital signs over here. And they're all over the place. With bugs like MRSA a constant threat/problem, it's not surprising it's become a big deal Down Under and over here.
