The Montreal Conservatoire de Musique was on fire this morning and I know it's located somewhere around the Plateau, so that's probably it. The top two floors were on fire, some kind of construction accident or something. Bad news because the sprinklers in the whole building went off and though their music library isn't on one of the burning floors...the books and scores could be all wet. So, yeah...
oooh, i've been very bad with the "tamil notebook" with exams, traveling et al. will definitely get it back on track with these holidays!
i couldn't think of an equivalent for "see you soon" so instead i've given you the traditional greeting for goodbye.
poy-tuh vuh-rain : literally, "i'll go and i'll come back" - it is impolite to just say "i'm going" in tamil, b/c it's like saying "i'm going to heaven/hell"
so regardless of whether u like the person or not, or whether u want to see them again, u always say, "i'll go and i'll come back" (poy-tuh - i'll go) and (vuh-rain, i'll come back)
we also dont have a phrase for good flight or safe journey... in all my experience, believe it or not, we always tell our relatives "bon voyage" :P - must be all that western imperalism and globalization...
and it looks like my inadequacies in tamil continues with good luck. time to buck it up with some lessons from the mother. i'll get back to u on those words!
i'm sorry... i promise i'll give better lessons in the near future. :)
take care and thanks for the kind words, even if i saw it after getting back home!
interesting, because "dosvidanya" russian for goodbye is literally "until seeing you again" as it is also inpolite to say I'm going ( belive it or not for the same reason :)
and bon voyage is the phrase used in russian for when somebody is travelling ( I also blame it on the Westernization :))
