Last night I watched The Constant Gardner. It's by the same director as the one who made Cidade de Deus (City of God), Fernando Meirelles.

I loved Cidade but The Constant Gardner was a real disappointment. I enjoyed the basic plot outline but the way in which it was taken, including the far-fetchedness of the second-half really put a spanner in the works.

The movie highlighted a plausible scenario in which Western governments were wedded by convenience to big pharmaceutical companies that produced drugs for a continent like Africa without having done the necessary research to cure major diseases. But the manner in which they put together a story to conflict it was really disappointing.

It's definitely worth a watch. I like movies like these. I'd place it in a similar genre as a movie like Lord of War.

Onto Syriana!

My boyfriend and his friends LOVE LOVE LOVE Lord of War. Is it really that good? Have you seen Domino?

Wow! I wouldn't say it's that good. It's definitely worth watching once... and no, I haven't seen Domino. Only saw the ad for it for the first time last night. Looks interesting and it has Keira Knightley, which is always a step in the right direction. :)

And do you remember we watched City of God in Atwater!

I think I may rent Domino tonight, it seems quite interesting!
Can you send me Lord of War? Not sure if I'd want to rent it .... :D

And yes I remember watching City of God with you. I was so shocked for days after. Especially with that one scene with the little five year old who has to shoot the other little three year old. Ahhhh!

Argh. So much to see. I don't know where I'm going to find a copy of City of God, it sounds like a really great movie, and I've been meaning to see it for years. Lord of War I hope to get online. I'm currently getting the Motorcycle Diaries. Syriana is probably worth a watch, but you already know what I think of it as a whole.
