Last night I watched The Constant Gardner. It's by the same director as the one who made Cidade de Deus (City of God), Fernando Meirelles.
I loved Cidade but The Constant Gardner was a real disappointment. I enjoyed the basic plot outline but the way in which it was taken, including the far-fetchedness of the second-half really put a spanner in the works.
The movie highlighted a plausible scenario in which Western governments were wedded by convenience to big pharmaceutical companies that produced drugs for a continent like Africa without having done the necessary research to cure major diseases. But the manner in which they put together a story to conflict it was really disappointing.
It's definitely worth a watch. I like movies like these. I'd place it in a similar genre as a movie like Lord of War.
Onto Syriana!

And yes I remember watching City of God with you. I was so shocked for days after. Especially with that one scene with the little five year old who has to shoot the other little three year old. Ahhhh!
