I feel ripped off by my driving instructor. Granted I lost my composure a little and made a couple small silly mistakes but hell, I drive the car a lot better than half the people with licenses our there. What a waste of money, it seems. And quite the joke if I end up getting thru in Canada easily. Bloody hell. This holiday has turned a little sour but luckily I have three weeks of ancestral heaven. In the meanwhile, does anybody have a funny/bizarre story to lift my spirits? :)

aww that sucks... well if it makes you feel any better, i still don't have a driver's license. hmm something funny... well yesterday i bought a scratching post for my cats at zeller's, and it had a little plastic bag of catnip in it. i brought it home and left it in the zellers bag, and somehow the cat managed to sniff it out, thru 3 plastic bags, pull it out of the zeller's bag, and rip the whole thing open w/o me noticing. if only catnip was an illegal substance, i could have a very useful kitty.

oh, and check this out if you haven't yet...

Sorry about the driver's license. Very annoying. Incidentally, I checked with some of my Canadian friends and they confirmed you can transfer a Canadian license here without any problems or tests.

As for funny stories... don't have any particularly humorous ones. One slightly embarrassing (not really) thing that happened to me a couple days ago.

First, I sorta adopted a stray dog that I'm trying to find a home for. He often crashes on my back porch.

Second, I have 2 cats. (I imagine you know this from my LJ.) The cats really really hate the presence of the dog.

Third, for various reasons mostly having to do with schedules, the high important training manager person for the Civil Aviation sometimes calls me at home to discuss class stuff (this was voluntary on my part, because it was easier than waiting around at work to call him.)

Well, he called me a couple day ago at about the time the cats were having a fit over the dog. And unfortunatley, my phone is right next to the door with the dog. So I had to explain to high important Omani training manager why the conversation is being clouded by two yowling and hissing and snarling cats and a dog yipping in amusement.

Muslims/Omanis just don't get the indoor pet concept.

Hehehe, so true! (kinda late in replying but I'd left to India by the time I could see the comment and only now found it in my mail account. Yay to Email notification!) :)

Enjoying reading your entries. Getting very philosophical, eh? hehe.

Yeah, I figured you were probably behind on LJ/email stuff because of going to India. (Well, actually, I'd forgotten this comment entirely.)

Philosophical, eh? Yeah, I guess so. Actually, I more just realized that my posts haven't been as philosophical as I usually am. It happens :)

Your comments about travels are interesting, btw. And welcome back to your current home.

the trick to passing the actual driving exam is wearing a skirt. that's right, a skirt. although back then, i was always too self-conscious about my legs and didn't wear one when i was 17, i know people who did. oh, and if your hair is as dark as i assume it is, make sure you wax your legs.

p.s. if it makes you feel any better, my driving instructor SUCKED ASS too.
he just sat there and hummed to shitty britney spears and nsync music.
but fear not, in 2-3 years, you'll have 14 DEMERIT points to screw yourself with!

Well you did better then me, I passed the learner permit exam fine, but never even got the courage to take the drivers exam. In result, I need to do the learners over and then the divers.

Honestly though, I am scared to drive in Montreal, the people who drive scare the shit out of me. I am scared of them ramming into me cause of their stupidity.

The system for driving here is pretty intense. Ironic tho how it's intended to make drivers safer by giving them as much experience on the road as possible before they get their actual license.

I'm a little confused about how the license system works here. From what I understand the first thing is the theory. Once you do that you get a learners permit. Then you take a test after 8-12 months and get a probationary license. Now supposedly after 2 years you get a regular drivers license.

I'm confused as to whether you take another practical test after the probationary license one or there's only one, and you're not allowed to get a proper license immediately after the learner's cuz of the probationary garbage. :)

Any help would be much appreciated. I'm sorry if i've confused you instead. :P
