I must admit, O'Neill didn't do himself any favours by allowing players to acquire such high wages. Now Lerner can't offload those six transfer-listed players, including Young who was nearly a done deal for us! I hope Villa doesn't disappear back to mid-to-lower table obscurity as they did before O'Neill's arrival. All that hard work...

Who'd you reckon is front-runner for the job? Is it the same person your ideal replacement?

yeah I hope so too, I like Luke Young so I hope he gets first team football now he hasn't gone

Well it's Sven, Southgate and Bob Bradley as the front runners with Sven worryingly looking the favourite. It'd be interesting to see Southgate as the manager, there'd be a lot of pressure on him since he said Villa had no ambition to bring some. Bob Bradley could be interesting, untested but he's the only one who has taken a team further than expected.

You can get 250 to one on David Beckham though so...hehe

Ah, no wonder Don Fab pronounced a quick end to his career. It all makes sense in the grand scheme of things.

I'm glad Luke Young didn't come to Liverpool. He's past his best. I also hope we don't get Carlton Cole. We need goalscorers. We need someone at least half as good as Torres, but I'll take someone half as good as that.

Bob Bradley is bad news. He's never managed a big club anywhere and four matches at the World Cup is not exactly the depth of a managing record you want to depend on. Southgate would be a stable bet and he's got history with the club. Sven's just a mercenary. But however long he spent at the club, his influence would be good. He just can't seem to last long anywhere and that is a massive problem. The last thing Villa needs is a Chelseaesque musical chairs of managers.

haha that'd be madness, highly unlikey nigh impossible but I'd like it :D

He is past his best but I think he has at least one good season left in him and watching him when O Neil picked him he always showed a great mental side to his game, he's a very clever right back and as we have two promising full back coming through it'll hopefully be good for them to learn from him and Warnock on the other side

Yeah I know what you mean, he did do well in the Confederations Cup as well against Spain and Brazil albeit being a friendlier competition than the World Cup, the players that have played under him always seem impressed with him as well and his tactic seem to contain a bit of ambition and daring as well as being quite solid.

Southgate would have a lot of people on his back straight from the get go but fans can't deny he was part of one of our best defensive lines, was a good captain and an international (Even if he did miss that penalty but many England players have) So his experience is unquestionable

I don't know about Sven, I think his reputation precedes him a bit too much and I'd be worried if certain players would play for him but his tactics would be the opposite of what they've been used to and that could ignite something new and exciting.
