The 8th of November in any year has always been characterized by some landmark event. In 1864, it marked the presidential victory of Abe Lincoln, while in 1895 Bill Roentgen discovered x-rays while experimenting with electricity. The 20th and early 21st century have also had their fair share of memorable November 8th's. Included is the birth of Katherine Hepburn in 1907, Kennedy's presidential victory in 1960 and the approval of the now infamous Resolution 1441 on Iraq's WMD in 2002.

But on November 8, 2003 there took place a different sort of landmark. The arrival of Montreal's latest Desi-Chef Extrordinaire. Never mind the fact that he only started learning the tricks of the trade less than a month earlier...

On that particular day, (actually evening), I prepared my first ever complete, three-course meal, not just for myself, but for a group of my four buddies, Arnav, Cris, Guillaume & Karun. Despite slightly burning the dal, the rest of the food seemed to disappear quick, esp. that chicken curry and mixed-vegetable pulao.

For starters I put together (rather hastily) a makeshift salad consisting of apple, cucumber, tomato and cheese slices; toothpicked cocktail sausages and tortilla chips with spicy salsa. The sausages and tortilla chips were most popular. Shall keep that in mind while preparing Group Meal II.

Main course consisted of naan bread, mixed-vegetable biryani, paapad, masoor dhal curry and my special, chicken korma. Since then I have expanded my horizons and added a mixed raita and potato fry to the list of main course choices. Another night, when I invited Stef, he showed me how to make his special salad - wow, it was really tasty. Recipes for some of these dishes to be added another day.

Anyways, by the time we were done with all that most of us were quite full. So we just lounged around and made silly webcam movies. My goodness, some of them are absolutely hilarious but I'm sorry. Can't share 'em. :-)

Just before everybody left, served some ice-cream, strawberry jelly and leftover halwa my mum had given thru my dad a month earlier.

We were quite pleased with it all. Everybody slept well that night. THE END!

-I'm no expert but am working on it. Cooking is fun. Read your update on "30 minute stirring." It's not boring if you cook a few things together @ once. Keeps you busy and on your toes.
