My microwave oven interferes with my wireless connection. I've read about the possibility of this happening and I suspected such interference earlier last week, but now I've caught the interference in action! Does anybody know just how far a laptop has to be from microwaves to avoid such interference, and if this has any potential side effects to either unit?

Stephen Constantine was the Indian national football team coach between 2001 and 2005. He was not a famous footballer in his day, and in fact, the only team he ever played for, and as a substitute at that, was Enfield Town FC! (Unfortunately, Enfield Town are only a Isthmian League team, and don't play in the Football League, or even in the Football Conference. But! They are geographically and name-wise, my closest team.) That wasn't the only interesting thing about Constantine. His father was from Cyprus, and given the fact he played for Enfield, it reminded me of the fact that there is a significant percentage of Greek Cypriots in my Borough. And even more interestingly, to me at least, when Gordon Brown became Prime Minister in June, he appointed my MP, Joan Ryan, as his Special Representative to Cyprus. What a small world we live in. But not so small that I know any of these folks personally.

Google News is great in its ability to humble you, just when you think you've struck gold. You think you've found the best story on the web, are about to link it on your LJ, and then you think: Has it already done the online rounds? So you Google News-it. Next thing you know, you've been getting your news from an outdated source, because the Beeb published the same article (in more detail & fewer words) last year, and there's at least 700 other replicates floating around the rest of the web. It makes you feel small and worthless. I had one such moment when I came across this. Enjoy!

My baby has arrived! For now I have temporarily nicknamed it The Dreamliner, but I will eventually replace it with a better Sanskrit name. The nickname is not important. What matters is that I have bought a mean machine and am ready to take on the world!

How do you become an instant celebrity and join Beckham et al as the next face on Pepsi?

Buy a cheap web cam, pull out some of your favorite Backstreet Boys songs and lip-sync yourselves to stardom!

Yeh, that's right. That's all it takes. Two unassuming university students majoring in sculpture at the Guangzhou Arts Institute in China have done just that and turned into major celebrity icons in their native country... and around the world!

From performing live, to becoming Motorola China's brand image for promoting their mobile phones to appearing in the Economist newspaper, they've done it all. And now they've become brand ambassadors for Pepsi, of yeh dil maange more fame.

The ECONOMIST featured them. WTF?! It's all the more embarassing to have only found out about them last night, considering how I spend most of my life online.

Even the non-participating roomate in the background who's playing Counterstrike has become famous. Man, I could write more but ye know what... I need more of this BSB fix... the memories!

Enjoy the Back Dormitory Boys:

I have decided to create my very own Indian Portal Online and was wondering if anybody knows of or has contact to a cheap place where I could host my own URL.

In general though, does anybody know how much it costs to host a URL each month/year?

Cheers!

I have a new political hero: Antonio Gramsci. His cultural hegemony theory flows right into my sheep theory. Perhaps most gratifying though was the discovery of historicism. It's a word I've been looking for all these years. Why didn't anybody have the presence of mind to introduce it to me earlier? :)

Some of you might know that I collect keychains, so in case you're in Montreal and currently on holiday, my request to you is to kindly bring back a souvenior key chain so that I can add it to the rest of the collection! Many thanks. :)

Starting today I am going to list the things I read on Wikipedia as I have also started to document all my research to prevent overlap and get an idea of the kinds of things I read. If you haven't heard of Wikipedia yet, get to know it now. It's the world's best, free online encyclopedia. It's dynamic which means it is constantly under revision and update. Anybody can edit entries and the more you participate the better it becomes. I should get paid for marketing the damn thing so much...

All you technical folk. My dad has a Sony-Ericsson T630 and we've taken some digicam pictures with it. The problem is in transferring the damn things onto the PC. We think we've got a USB cable but no adapter. We also don't have a cell-phone internet connection and the laptop doesn't have Bluetooth or Infra-red stuff. Any ideas?!

The following is a general and broad introduction to my political views and leanings for all those who are interested. I have posted a new topic into [livejournal.com profile] bhooyakasha to go with the contents of this entry. Even if you're not a member on Bhooy, do not hesitate to share your views on this journal. If you'd like to join Bhooy, gimme a shout. :) Read more... )

My right contact is stuck inside the top of my eye and I can't get it out. I don't even have hardkore proof it's up there but there are signs. Here's what happened today... )

PS I'm more appreciative of The Passion of the Christ tonight than I was when I watched it last night. I guess it was just so overwhelming but in a subtle way that I needed some time for my mind to settle down with it. As for LoTR - since I've been requested to read the books first, I can be pretty certain that I'll never get round to watching the movies. =)

Peace!

Another day bites the dust. And the afternoon was boring. Evening was cool because I discovered how to use the Torrent program and now I am very happy. Watched an episode of Coronation Street for the first time since the summer, downloaded the full length of Tyson's last fight with Lennox Lewis and an episode of Will&Grace so far. If I can free up enough space I'll try my hand at a movie or something tomorrow. Perhaps they might have Gandhi that I've been searching for like crazy online. Does anybody have a copy I could rip by any chance? I've seen it several times but it's still worth another shot.

Then I wasted time over this link. I learnt many a thing about Canadian and American political history that I didn't know about before. The page also has a link to a comparison of the Canadian and American economy. Very interesting stuff.

David came online and we had a typical discussion. Cricket, Politics, Life in Brisbane, Odds&Ends, Sex. The usual. I am going to find out why them Aussies chose the American legislative terms while the Canucks took one of each. Useless information.

Finished downloading 2 parts of the new Tamil blockbuster Virumandi, and if I can free up a bit more space I'll be able to download the last section and watch it this weekend. I haven't watched a Tamil movie since October or November I think... *gasps*

Four more days of fun 'n' games!
Peace...

Did you know there was an earthquake around Israel and Jordan late last night? Yeh, read more about it here. Apparently it measured 4.5 on the Richter scale but there were no casualties or deaths. Thank goodness.

A lot of maintenance work is going on in my building and on my floor. It makes it very difficult to study under the constant drone of a drill or hammer but Mozart and Beethoven have both been very kind to me. And they've also provided entertainment. Got Social Context in just under an hour's time and then I'm done of the day.

Is anybody interested in joining me for some recreational Badminton on Friday or Saturday @ the mcgill gym?
