Math Midterm ...
Jan. 28th, 2004 10:00 pm... Tomorrow! Aaaack!! Well it's only worth 15% cuz there's another one worth the same in March. Not too worried about it. Every percent can make a big difference @ the end, but worse comes to worse, a B- is good enough. *grin*
Today was fairly productive even though I did go to bed really late, which was all my fault. There was no need really. I got back from the montreal-lj meet around midnight but couldn't be arsed to go to bed. I think I knocked out while reading a book because the next morning the book was still on the bed, my glasses were on the ground and the pillows were near my feet. Don't ask! :/
Anyways, I woke up late enough to miss (skip?) my first two classes. Bah! Lost 1.25% for not turning in an assignment for accounting. fuck it, i'll make it up in the others, inshallah. So instead spent the morning and afternoon finishing off my social context essay.
Social Context was good for about the first 35 minutes - that was when there was a group presentation on Sweatshops. Even the first 10 minutes or so of the discussion was going good till some jerkass decided to get all smart and started going on this pitiful argument. Well, in essence he was saying:
"The sweatshop workers can't form unions in poor countries because they're uneducated."
I could've punched him in the middle of his bloody face. Fucking retard. I swear, they take education for granted so much here and hype it up so much. Literacy is a level of how much you can think and learn. Just cuz someone doesn't go through school doesn't mean they go through life with a blank brain. Stupid piece of shit.
Yeh, so that characterized my day. The LJ meetup was wikked awesome. Met some great people and can't wait for the next one. Hopefully I'll be able to see some of them before that, perhaps?
Anyways, the Integral man is calling me. I hope everybody is coping and doping. Lemme know how you're all gettin' along! Cheers!

Jan. 15th, 2004 03:25 amAn Awesome Year of Indian Cricket Ahead:
It began with a bang @ the SCG and it's a pity they didn't win, but despite ending in a draw, it was an exciting match for the most part. Hopefully the series performance will set the tone for the remaining Test series for the year: vs Pakistan away (3), vs B'desh away (2), vs Australia home & vs S.Africa home! It's not often that you get to play so many tests against three of the more competitive teams on the circuit...
Of course, as is their wont, India will be playing a squillion ODI's inbetween, but it's good the majority of them are against worthy teams like the Kanga's and Paki's. Oopsie, did I just make a politically incorrect boo boo? :-)
And for probably the first time in my life I've finally got a doze of proper cricketing englightenment and hope we win all our Test Series @ the expense of meaningless ODI's. Pappu would be proud...
Today's Discussion:
In a recent chat with Aditi about accents, she came up with the following question and thought it would be a worthwhile idea putting it to the best of minds that travel across these pages. Looking forward to some constructive replies this time. Although your plain-speak Mr.Prakash was refreshingly welcome indeed. I love what's going on in general so keep 'em coming ppl...
The question is: "You know when someone pronounces a word wrong and you have to use the same word and you don't know whether to embarrass them and pronounce it the right way, or be incorrect and pronounce it their way? What would you do and/or what have you done until now? Are there any pro's or con's to both ways?"
Would love to hear your thoughts and comments...
For those interested, here are some more links to useless information: *smile*
1. List of metropolitan areas by population
2. The All Music Guide
3. The World Clock
4. Languages of the World Charts
5. Bandwidth Speed Test
Just in case you are wondering why I am awake @ so bizarre an hour, keep in mind I've been having really f*cked up sleeping patterns of late and the latest one saw me sleep from 10pm-1:30am. :-) I have no idea how much longer I will be awake for until I feel tired again ...
Still, that's improvement from the day before yesterday when I slept for nearly five hours straight between 5pm and 10pm (local time)! Must be the weather...

Tonight is supposed to be the coldest night of the year yet and tomorrow (14th) the worst of the winter! One estimate, with windchill, predicts -48^Celsius. This should be taken into due consideration when reading any of the replies/comments from the guys in Montreal. ;-)
Dubaiwalla, yes we did miss you. Also, I know there are a few others reading the pages. Please leave your indelible mark (refer to Bio). If any of you have any friends who might be interested in writing on these pages, do not hesitate to send the word. I don't plan/want to keep the discussions on purely India, either. The Olympics thing just sort out jumped out of nowhere. Oh yeh, do keep in mind, India has been awarded the 2010 Commonwealth and just hosted a successful Afro-Asian Games late last year. Most of the top athletes dropped out but if you knew the politics that went into it, it was a feat by itself to host it finally! (Oh yeh, and Frankie Fredericks was there...)
On that note, and after another fulfilling day of nothingness, I bid adieu and goodnight. I'm enjoying what I've been reading so far. Oh yeh, Cris, don't fall into the Brisbane Trap. Trust me, years of experience. :-)
Cheers!
Bachelor's Night Out!
Jan. 12th, 2004 02:55 amI’ve just got back from Arnav’s where the Gang of Five watched No Good Deed starring Samuel Jackson, Milla Jovovich & Stellan Skarsgård (Ronin, Good Will Hunting). It was a rather interesting movie at first but fortunately/unfortunately the only good thing about it till the end was the aesthetic presence of Ms. Jovovich. A couple of scenes in particular will remain etched in my memory for some time to come. For the others, a movie to avoid @ all costs. It’s not as bad as Scary Movie III though. What movies have you watched recently? Any worth an extra recommendation? I could do with a good, thinking movie.
Later this morning, seeing as to how it is nearly 3:00am right now, I will be trying to sort out what courses I will be taking this semester. I know it’s been a week into the semester but after all that has happened, this is the price to pay for terrible behavior. Anyways, once that is sorted out there is the issue with the Visa. Ahh, let’s hope that all gets sorted out easily. Red tape is lethal here in McGill and even the Management advisor has warned me about it. He is a bloody part of it! Oh well, at least I got back in.
Elsewhere, I am trying to figure out how to sort out my entire feeding habits. Ever since getting back from Oman I’ve not been able to fill myself with three, proper meals a day. It’s been a mix of random things @ the oddest of hours and I’m starting to feel the pinch of it. Any ideas on how to stay cheap and get fat?
Alrighty. I’m off to bed…Read on and stay tuned!
Discussion for the Day…
Is my faith in a near-future (15-25 years), developed India, severely misplaced? I’d like to hear your thoughts on this topic that has, for a long time been intriguing me. Despite everything India, as a modern-nation, has achieved since Independence, a lot has been left to be desired and a lot, lot more is needed to reach any of the minimum social/economic heights of the Western nations… How far behind is India and will it ever reach the position the USA is in today, and if yes, when do you foresee such an awesome sight (*smile*), and if not, why not?
Till next time…
Have a good one!
