Create Your Own Visited Countries Map

28 countries which include Bahrain, Ireland, Netherlands, and Qatar where I didn't exit the airport and I know most people wouldn't count them, but I do so. :-P The closest I've been to the southern hemisphere is Singapore in the summer of 1989 (1.17N). And I've yet to hit up Latin America, Africa and Oceania.

Create Your Own Visited States Map

19 states + DC which includes Tennessee which I've just flown through and a couple that I've just driven through. I'll be spending a weekend in Nashville this month for a stag-do so I guess this list will be more *legit* than my countries visited.

Create Your Own Visited Provinces and Territories Map

Four years in Canada but just the three provinces visited. I'll be returning to Toronto (and Canada) for the first time in 11 years this September for a college mate's wedding.

It's the usual rules:
1. If you reply to this post, I'll assign you a letter.
2. List (and link to, if you feel like it) 5 music tracks that start with that letter.
3. Post them to your journal with these instructions.

I got the letter G. Like last time I've linked my tracks to YouTube and Spotify. Enjoy!

1. Green Onions (Booker T. & the M.G.'s) - yt; sp
2. Ghost Town (The Specials) - yt; sp
3. Girls & Boys (Blur) - yt; sp
4. Groovejet (Spiller) - yt; sp
5. Gymnopedie No. 1 (Erik Satie) - yt; sp

Instructions:
1. Reply to this post and I'll assign you a letter.
2. List (and upload, if you feel like it) 5 songs that start with that letter.
3. Post them to your journal with these instructions.

I was graciously conferred with the letter R:
1. Rock Around The Clock - Bill Haley & His Comets [spotify; youtube]
2. Respect - Aretha Franklin [spot; yt]
3. Rag Doll - Aerosmith [spot; yt]
4. Rapunzel (Live in Chicago '98) - Dave Matthews Band [spot; yt]
5. Reptilia - The Strokes [spotify; yt]

As a fan of BBC Radio Four's Desert Island Discs programme, I really enjoyed this short exercise. All the tracks were chosen from my custom-made playlists on Spotify of: Pre-60s Classics, 60s & 70s Classics, 80s Classics, 90s Classics and 2000s Classics. I picked a track from each playlist but was surprised to find so few beginning with the letter R! The first track brings back memories of high school, the second track is an all-time classic that became Franklin's signature song, the third track takes me back to middle school when one of my best friends who had just moved to Oman introduced me to the band he was obsessed with. The fourth track takes me back to my first year at uni. I'd never heard of Dave Matthews Band until I met the people on my floor who turned out to become my best friends at McGill. This particular version of Rapunzel was my best friend's favourite and it quickly grew on me. And finally the last track reminds me of my mum. I heard it on the radio hours before flying to India after her passing away (which I didn't know of at the time). It gave me peace and comfort.

If you'd like a letter, leave a comment. :)

India continues to be CHEAP... an hour @ an internet cafe is just Rs. 25 (highspeed!). A newspaper like the The Hindu costs a mere Rs. 1.50 or 2.50!!! And that's for a full 20-pages of broadsheet plus a coupla supplements. That's value for money. Today's lunch cost all of Rs. 35 and boy, was it filling and scrumptous. (Exchange Rates).

The 'summer training' is getting better. Time actually flew a few times today with some monotonous data-entry and manual data-verification. I have decided not to work in a bank like this. Stock trading, here I come...

It has been a rather good weekend. Two movies on Friday night, City of God and Dirty Pretty Things, McDonalds, crazy photos, Sehwag's double-century, shocking The Romanian's Romanian friend, sleeping odd-hours, talking to J for an hour... Damn Man Acc quiz tomorrow morning. Wish me luck!

'People respond to music in different ways. Some nod their head to the beat. Others like to tear it up in the pit. Then there are those who demonstrate their enthusiasm in their own special way. Linkin Park encountered one such fan at Montreal’s Bell Centre, where they recently played as part of their Meteora World Tour. Guitarist Brad Delson remembers it as if it were yesterday.'

"There was a 400-pound man who I guess had become so exhilarated with the show that he had taken off all of his clothes and he was dry-humping the floor," he recalls. "It took about six guys to actually wrestle him out of there and remove him. Which is unfortunate, because apparently he was having a very good time."

Thought I'd let you homies know that I was @ that concert but unfortunately don't remember the infamous incident. That's quite something I tellya! I also found out that there were 12,200 ppl @ the same show so that's just to make those of you who were envious and/or jealous, feel better.

Aquarius Drinking style:
Aquarius and drinking don't go together that well (except for water, that is). They have an innate tendency toward know-it-allism, and if they get an idea while sizzled, they're more stubborn than a stain or a stone. If they're throwing a party or organizing an outing, however, they're too preoccupied with their duties to get combative -- and they make perfectly charming drunks in that case. Fortunately, they're usually capital drink-nursers. They also make the best-designated drivers (if you can get them before they start raising their wrist): Aquarius is fascinated by drunken people and capable of holding interesting conversations with soused strangers while sober.

Last night Cris, Jeremy and I chilled @ Cris initially to watch Fast and the Furious. Jordana Brewster is just, *droool* material. Wow! Then we watched Average Joe which is just the lame-est show ever! Gawd, ppl make those kinds of shows man. The chick was tres beautiful but still...

Afterwards we picked up the pace and went over to Arabesque for some Shisha and then Al-Tayib's for slices of Pizza. All in all, a fairly expensive night if you count the green.

You're
the United Kingdom!

You're a much weaker person than you used to be, but you still
act like you did when everyone looked up to you.  Despite this, you're
probably a better person than you were when you had so much power over those
around you.  Though you do have a strange fascination with jewels and monarchs,
which lets you play in castles, but also end up leading a sort of tabloid lifestyle.
You really like the Beatles, even more than you like Oasis.

5 Questions

mcgillianaire: (Default)
THE RULES:
1 - Leave a comment, saying you want to be interviewed.
2 - I will respond; I'll ask you five questions.
3 - You'll update your journal with my five questions, and your five answers.
4 - You'll include this explanation.
5 - You'll ask other people five questions when they want to be interviewed

THE QUESTIONS & ANSWERS:
(As framed by [livejournal.com profile] montrizzle)

1. Now that you're in Montreal (and North America in general), are you tempted to stay?
Yes, very much so. I'm not as tempted to be in other parts of N.America as I am in Montreal but if Bank of Montreal has a finance opening or the Government can speed up my Permanent Residency process if and when I apply, most certainly so.

2. Are you actually a millionaire?
Heh. Unfortunately no and I don't know if I'll ever become one. But it doesn't hurt to hope...

3. If you could choose between free weed for life or an unlimited supply of any food for life (but it has to be ONE food, it doesn't mean free groceries or eating out/ordering in), which would you choose from? (And yes, it can be a meal, like chicken parmigiana or something.)
Hahaha. Free weed for life is a very tempting offer. I mean, chances are being the business student that I am I'd prolly end up selling as much of it as possible to make superabnormal profits but I'm gonna have to go with one food. And that one food would without a cinch of a doubt be my mum's spicy chicken or mutton curry alongwith this thin type of indian bread known as 'romaali rotis' which means, the handkerchief. And in all honesty, it's as thin as a hanky and alongwith that curry, mhmmmm, you got me stomach growlin, mate!! So yeh, it was a tough choice but once I settled on food there was no hesitation.

4. In 100 words or less, why are/were you pro the war in Iraq?
Saddam was an evil dictator and the easiest of the most dangerous to get out of power. Democracy in Iraq is necessary for speeding up likewise processes in the rest of the Middle East. Israel has one less threat. Even if he didn't have WMD's, WMD Programs are still a threat, and you can never trust a dictator with the capacity to procure such weapons. His removal from power will contribute immensely to desisting those elements who were on the verge of contributing to global terror. Ultimately, it is a case of the ends justifying the means. 97 words

5. What did you like best about seeing hockey live?
The atmosphere and smooth plays/passes/goal setups. It was free flowing and that's what I like about hockey. It's a lot more flowing than football (or soccer for those who can't say it the proper way). =)

As most of you are aware, the Democrat primaries are underway and JFK the IInd is running away with it all. He hasn't won the nomination yet, and in fact he needs a further 1,500+ delegate votes in order to achieve such a victory. In the meanwhile, I decided to try my hand @ these two quizzy things related to American politics and the US Presidential Campaign.

For those who know I want Bush re-elected, it may come as a surprise to you that Bush is @ the bottom of my list with a score of 29%, nearly 60% off from the nearest challenger (Wesley Clark). But it makes sense. I'm not particularly keen on seeing Bush get re-elected because I support his demestic and some of his foreign policy agendas. Need I say he's got issues. =) I just think in terms of the GWOT, Indo-Pak relations, Iraq and BPO of the Service Sector it's better to keep him in to finish off the agenda as far as possible, than have someone like Kerry or worse, Dean come along and reverse the whole process.

Therefore, Bush deserves requires a 2nd term. Be my guest and slur me to death! ;-)

India has just lost the VB Series final @ the SCG. I think we lost it in those three overs when they scored 50 runs in 3 overs somewhere between the 44th and 47th overs. Great batting performance by the lower order, as Pathan, Nehra and Karthik chipped in with some useful scores.

It's been an uncharacteristic few days since I last updated this. The good news is that I've picked up my first 'fiction' book for the season - The Life of Pi by Yann Martel. The past coupla days have probably been eventful but I'm not sure if I can remember everything that has happened. On Friday was my MHR Midterm. Didn't do too well but the rest of the day was pretty cool. Went for my first live hockey game with [livejournal.com profile] montrizzle and that was a fantastic experience despite the disappointing scoreline. Then afterwards I went to watch Johnny English @ Arnav's. A really silly but good spoof movie, if you catch me drift.

Come to think of it, Saturday was a really uneventful day that just got worse with the cricket. Surprisingly I don't feel so bad about the match actually. It probably has to do with the fact this is the third time in less than a year the fuckin' Kangaroos have scored 340+ against us in an ODI. At least we can take heart from the fact we exceeded expectations and drew the all-important Test series. Next up, Pakistan... Wow, that's gonna be a cracker. Australia is a better team but there's nothing like an India-Pakistan match, leave alone a series.

Aiiight, it's 5:15am. Me off to bed. Drop me a message and lemme know how everything's comin' along.

Adios!

Yeh, so my day began @ around 12:20am, real early this morning - while most of you Montrealers were asleep infact. Long story short, random livejournal browsing landed me up @ the doorstep of this gurl, Elisabeth who used to study in my school, the ABA in Oman way back in 1989 till like 1991. So we got started sending messages back and forth on her page until I decided to unlazify myself and see if she had an MsN ID or something. As it turned out downloading AIM last night came in handy and after a coupla hours of catching up on the 'good ole days' I went to bed around 5:30am. (Liz btw, lives/studies in Texas).

So this time I expect every one of you to add yourself to my Cluster Map ... or else, you'll regret not doing so. Trust me. I got contacts in high up places. Yeh, so please be nice and just add yourself. Thanks!!

Not again, I know. I'm sorry. Well not really. Just registered for a two-month paid account and decided to experiment with the page styles again. Heck, I might just change it again next week. We'll see. Anyways, just took a quick break from studying. Back to the damned differential functions...
